📍 Teaching, serving, leading, loving, creating – my focus, my purpose, my joy.
Hi, I’m Kim, co-founder of The Leading Through Institute. I am Sue’s husband (of 54 years) and the father of Jonathan and Erin and five other amazing children.
I am a Professor at BYU Marriott School of Business. It was my dream job when I was 29, but had to wait 41 years to get there. In the meantime, I taught for 27 years at the Harvard Business School, served as Dean the last ten of those years, and then served for 10 amazing years as President of BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho. From Idaho we moved to Salt Lake City where I served 4 years as the Commissioner of Education and a General Authority for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And now I am at BYU and helping to grow LTI.
I’m especially passionate about helping leaders learn deeply the power that is in them, and the power that is in their teams and their organizations. The key is to activate the soul, heart and mind of leadership in each person and in each and every part of the organization. When that happens it is like magic! People thrive and the organization flourishes. That is the purpose of LTI.
Outside of work, I love to serve in my Church, and do family history, searching genealogical records to put families together! I also love to read and learn new things, play golf, and spend time with Sue and our wonderful extended family – 42 and counting!
ERIN CLARK
FOUNDER & PRESIDENT
📍 Love. Inspiration. Vitality. Expression – words to LIVE (and lead) by.
Hi, I’m Erin, co-founder of The Leading Through Institute (LTI). Helping people learn and grow – to realize their full potential – has always been central to the work I do – as a researcher, manager, consultant, advisor, coach and leader. And, it is at the heart of what led us to start LTI.
Now, more than ever, we need the work of leadership to flourish in every corner of every organization – from large global corporations to small startups or community organizations to local communities and families. Our goal is to make the highest quality leadership education and learning resources available to as many people as possible – regardless of their role, their position or scope of responsibility. As we discovered in our study – and say repeatedly in our book (and now in our courses): we are all leaders, we all have the work of leadership to do!
My greatest work – and the role that has challenged and taught me the most - is that of mom to Kira, Kat, Mason, Matthew and Charlotte. They are my greatest blessing and my greatest teachers. We live in Utah – along with our dog, Isabelle – and we love getting out in the mountains near our home. I also love food, fitness and have come to deeply value a more focused and intentional approach to strengthening my own vitality. I love to learn and explore something new – especially in the kitchen testing a new recipe!

JONATHAN CLARK
FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL
📍 Husband. Father. Thinker. Teacher. Builder. Rooted in faith. Shaped by family. Committed to making things better.
Hi, I'm Jonathan, co-founder of the Leading Through Institute. I’m a husband to Deborah and dad to Isaac, Owen, and Jasper—three young men who inspire, challenge, and teach me daily. I’m also a teacher, researcher, writer, and builder by nature.
I’ve spent my career exploring how people, purpose and systems come together to create lasting impact (hint: leadership is key!). I’ve served on the faculty at the University of Texas at San Antonio and Penn State and held various roles in those institutions as a program director, department chair, and associate dean.
At the heart of my work is a belief that there is dignity, value and the potential for greatness in every person—and that the viability and vitality of our organizations, communities and societies ultimately depends on our ability to help each other realize our potential—personal and collective. In a world increasingly shaped by impersonal digital technologies and distractions, human connection and human experience matter more than ever. The key is leadership, but not the kind we get from executives or teams of experts alone. That’s why we started LTI: to help people everywhere do the work of leadership—mobilizing action, learning and change, and creating environments where people and organizations can thrive.
Outside of work, I love to spend time with my family—talking around the dinner table, playing (and coaching) sports with my boys, or just watching a good movie together. I also love to serve in my church and in my community, read, explore the outdoors, and continue the lifelong work of becoming the kind of person and leader I hope to help others become.
DAVID MOSS
FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL
Hi, I'm David, founder of the Leading Through Institute. I have 20 years of leadership experience working for large corporations including Bank of America and Overstock.com. Prior to LTI, I served as the U.S. Director of HR for Tower Semiconductor, an international high-tech manufacturer. As a solutions and results focused HR executive, I've supported teams ranging from entry level employees to scientists and executive teams.
I'm especially passionate about Leading Through because of my own personal journey.
I have felt unprepared throughout my professional positions as life outside of work has stretched me. While I'm grateful for the growth and learning, I've longed for a clear way to systematically think about leadership and organizations. The frameworks of Soul, Heart, Mind, and Modular Leadership make a complete system to guide individuals and organizations. I want people to learn these ideas and make them a part of who they are.
I graduated from Utah State University Huntsman School of Business with a bachelor's degree in management and human resources and earned an MBA from the Brigham Young University Marriott School of Business.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife Julia and our four children. I'm an avid cyclist who has completed the Crusher in the Tushar race and ascended Haleakalā, but mostly I just enjoy riding with my thoughts and taking in the beauty of the world. I was born and raised in Iowa by my father, a mechanic, and my mother, who taught me the value of careful financial management.
